I knew I wanted to do another DIY Advent Calendar this year, but my thumbs have almost twiddled themselves off because I couldn’t make up my mind.
I loved, and still do, the one I made last time… but I was running out of time (it did take me a bit to put together) and our afternoons and evenings are insane. So having a new, fun project or event was out of the question.
I have been thinking lately a lot about being grateful for what we have and wanting the kids to think the same…then it hit me like a ton of bricks. What if we just had a teeny, tiny moment of reflection everyday? Just one thing, even if it is little, that we are grateful for? Kind of like the 30 days of Thankfulness at Thanksgiving…but it’s not Thanksgiving.
It makes sense in my head.
Anywho. I knew it would be super easy. And most items I had on hand.
I grabbed a few taper candles and measured it off. Not from tip to tip, but from where the line is at the top and the bottom. Then divided that by 24, so I would know what my spacing was.
I started off by using a toothpick and writing the numbers. I had hoped to go back and fill it in with my favorite writing tool eva, a thin sharpie….yeah, that didn’t work so much. I tried a paint pen and even craft paint.
fail.
fail.
fail.
Since I had already ruined a candle, I tested a sharpie. Duh…of course it worked. And took less than 5 minutes.
So everyday we light it and say our little things that we are grateful for while it burns down to the next. This should get quite interesting.
