I asked 31 bloggers the same 35 questions for my 31Days Series.
Here are their answers:
I ran across Lindsay from The White Buffalo Styling Co. last year when she started contributing to Lindsay, from Makely’s blog.
(See? Weekend of the Lindsay’s. And there is another tomorrow).
This chick has serious eye candy. Seriously.
I want to go to her house and see it in person, I can’t get enough of her eclectic-rustic-modern-bohemian style. Is that even a thing? Yes. She coined it Country Modern Bohemian and I am in looooove with it! You guys are going to die when you see her work.
Interwebs, Meet The White Buffalo Styling:
1. A bit about yourself, where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small town in South Carolina called Pickens. We lived on a little farm there and I loved the country life! Now, I live in a bit more urban downtown area in Greenville, SC.
2. Main subject of your blog?
I blow about finding your personal style and infusing it into your every day. On the blog, you’ll find stylish DIY’s for your home, styling tips for your decor, entertaining and parties, and even a little fashion thrown in! I love all things style!
3. Was a design background something you were interested in when you were young?
I always considered being an interior designer. I loved style from a young age: redoing my room, getting dressed in the morning, planning a party for months in advance. I dreamed of doing something in that world. But I also loved writing and dreamed of working in that world as well. When I found blogging, it was the perfect combination of my two loves!
4. Fall or spring?
FALL, FALL, FALL. I have always been a fall girl and have often said I’d live August through December over and over again if I could. I like colder weather better and getting bundled up. I love fires, plaid, fur, apple cider, and filling your home with pumpkins! I always have to make myself hold off on the fall decor as soon as August hits!
5. If you could have a different profession, would you?
No. I’m on my fifth job since graduating college and this is honestly the first time in my life that I can say I’m doing exactly what I love and exactly what I feel I’m supposed to be doing. Every day, I wake up and can’t believe that I get to stay at home, decorate my house, and blog for a living. It feels like a dream world!
7. What style do you usually post about?
I hate to say it, but my style is a little complicated. I love rustic woods, plaid, and infusing country elements into my decor. I also love mid-century modern furniture and all things hippie and bohemian. Can those things all fit together? I think so! I love eclectic, collected rooms with personality.
8. What is a style that you are drawn to, but isn’t part of your normal material to talk about?
To be honest, I can’t think of one! White Buffalo is about celebrating all style, so I often talk about/feature homes that are a bit different than my usual taste. But, when your style is as eclectic as mine, a lot gets lumped in there.
9. East Coast or West Coast?
East Coast, definitely. I’ve lived in South Carolina my whole life and love the coastal South. Cities like Charleston and Savannah have my heart. But, I also have recently fallen in love with New England. The history and charm it has to offer is unparalleled.
10. Main go-to colors?
I always say that my favorite colors are white and wood. I know, white is lack of color and wood isn’t a color at all. But those are the two contrasting mediums you’ll see throughout my home. We have all white walls with a lot of rustic wood accents. Granted, I love splashing and layering some color on top of that and I love to mix colors that you wouldn’t usually see together. But, those colors are constantly changing. Right now, I’m loving jewel tones for fall and the holidays.
11. Color combo’s you have been dying to try?
Plum, turquoise, and orange. Again, fall girl at heart.
12. Antiques or new pieces of furniture and decor?
I will almost always lean towards antiques. We don’t have the budget to buy expensive antiques, but a lot of my favorite pieces are old yard sale or thrift store finds that have a soul and a history. I do like mixing in some new pieces and my husband makes a lot of our furniture so new definitely makes an appearance. My perfect home has a good mix of both because I love how collected it feels. I never want our home to feel like I went to a furniture store and just bought all matching sets. It just isn’t me.
13. Avid DIY’er or would you rather buy it finished?
Avid DIY’er for sure! We’ve made nearly every light fixture and most of the furniture and decor in our home! I started DIYing when we first got married and I had a desire to fix up our first home and we just couldn’t afford to buy much. Then, we both fell in love and like to DIY things because it’s exciting and we can usually make the same thing or something we like even better for cheaper.
14. Favorite Music to work to?
Folk music is probably my current favorite. I love how it ties in the bluegrass and country of my childhood, but has a new, cool vibe mixed in. It may seem weird, but I feel like elements of my style are reflected in that music, so it’s inspiring to have playing while I create.
15. Early Bird or Night Owl?
This one is tough. I really go back and forth. My best days are ones where I make myself get up early and have the whole day before me. But, that’s often hard to do because my mind really goes crazy at night. I love to search for inspiration in the night hours, so it’s often hard to shut it down and go to bed at a decent time.
16. Eat in or Go Out?
Eat in. I love going out for special dinners and few things excite me more. But, now that we’re gluten and dairy free, eating out has become really difficult. I love eating at home, though I’m not always in the mood to cook, because we can make most anything we used to eat with substitutions we’ve learned. Going out now feels like we’re sacrificing, but we eat good at home!
17. Coke or Pepsi?
Coke. I don’t drink it often, but when I do, I like it much better.
18. Carpet or Hard Flooring?
Definitely hardwoods. Again, my favorite color is wood, so I love beautiful wood floors. My main obsession are old rugs, and I like them best paired against hardwood.
19. Country you want to visit?
Ireland. I’m drawn to natural places and I’ve always heard it’s beautiful there.
20. What do you do to unwind?
Drink tea and watch television. I hate to admit it, but I love TV. I’ve definitely weaned myself way, way down from how much I used to watch. But I get lost in stories. I have my certain few shows that I watch and I so look forward to seeing what happens with my favorite characters.
21. Who is your Design Icon?
Emily Henderson, for sure. My style is similar to hers in many ways (though it has more rustic and lodge mixed in), but more than anything, I’m drawn to her “no rules” approach to design. She does what she loves unapologetically and I don’t feel like she tries to follow trends.
22. Outside or Inside?
A mix of both. I love taking long walks outside or sitting outside by a fire, but cozying up on the couch for movie night is a favorite too.
23. Piece of work that still makes you proud till this day?
Our new kitchen. It’s my favorite room in our new cottage and I love how everything came together.
24. What is the movie that you can watch over and over and it never gets old?
The Family Stone. I love Christmas as much as I love fall and this big-family movie always gets me. I love the architecture in it, the characters, and the themes.
25. Favorite Social Media Platform?
I am such a visual person, so Instagram is my favorite for sure!
26. What movie character do you think you identity the most with?
Esther, from Meet Me in St. Louis. I love this old film and the world they live in is so intriguing to me. But most of all, I see so many similarities between her and myself. She’s a dreamer, a hopeless romantic, and sees the magic in the everyday. Granted, when that magic is gone or something throws her, she’s thrown and at times, a bit dramatic. Thankfully (and unfortunately), all qualities I see in myself.
27. Cupcakes or Cake?
Cupcakes! Why is everything so cute when it’s tiny?
28. Best gift you have ever received?
My engagement ring. It’s the one “thing” I’ve ever received that never leaves me and that I look at every single day. I love what it represents, but it’s the prettiest thing I own with it’s antique setting. I love it. And of course, it brings back wonderful memories.
29. Best gift you have ever given?
For our first Christmas, I made my husband a set of rustic road signs that had the streets we both grew up on and then the street we now lived on together in our first home. He loved the look of it and the meaning behind it.
30. Would you rather talk to or text someone?
Unfortunately, the answer is often text and I hate that about myself and our culture today. I’m bad about making myself so busy that I’d much rather text for a quick answer than spending the time to call.
31. Coffee or Tea?
Both! Coffee in the morning, tea at night.
32. One thing you cannot live without?
This may be “cheating” because it’s not technically a thing, but I couldn’t live without my creativity and the ability to create. I constantly dream of new creations and it makes up so much of who I am, I don’t know what I’d be like without it.
33. Favorite type of flower?
Rose. My full name is Lindsay Rose and our little girl coming in January will be named Rosie.
34. Best thing about this year?
Finding out that we are expecting a Baby Buffalo! Our little girl will be born in January and we are dying to met her.
35. What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming months?
I’m most looking forward to that moment when they put Rosie in my arms for the first time and I get to look at her and see her looking back up at me. I think about it every day
Go. Run. Now. And hang with Lindsay! The White Buffalo Styling Co., Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Google+ and Twitter
