I have slowly kept you updated on Instagram with this project…..
I drool over illuminated letters daily.
But we all know how ridiculous they are to buy, not to mention to hang them.
There are been numerous DIY’s, that I have read over and over,
but for some reason, I didn’t want to fully indulge in cutting metal….
I’m crazy, I know.
I’m crazy, I know.
I get to sort-of hang with these chicks at Haven in a few weeks! ok, not really. I will just watch them from afar, but am beyond excited)
I knew I wanted the little’s to look similar to a monogram, so I used my trusty paper and hot glue system.
Materials:
Paper Cake Plates (hobby lobby)
Chipboard Letters (hobby lobby)
Primer
Paint
Cardstock
Hotglue
Two Strands of Outdoor Lights (target)
Hooks or nails
Mark off where to put lights on cake plates and letters (I just eyed it, didn’t measure)
Lightly drill holes the a tad bit bigger that the base of the outdoor lights.
Prime letters and paint once dry.
Cover cake plates with paper of you choice and glue letters on, making sure all holes line up.
Run lighting through.
I ran one strand for the letters and one for the outline, so the outlets would line up.
Duct tape the dawg out of the back side.
I snatched up little hooks that are for pictures at Target, and left one wire (wrapped in electrical tape) loose to hang each circle from)
Absolutely LOVE the way the look at night.
A word of warning:
The lights get super hot. And I mean hot.
I had seen several remarks about this and you can order some online that don’t get as hot, but the bulb is not clear and I am impatient and didn’t want to wait, so I went the cheaper route and grabbed two strands at Target.
and another warning:
if you follow me on Instagram, you noticed I had said death by a glue gun.
I had just finished this project
(yet another that should of taken just a bit, but took me years…I lie….)
(yet another that should of taken just a bit, but took me years…I lie….)
and was about to throw this out the window.
