A year ago this week, I took off on a little cross country road trip GMC.
Every year GMC teams up with Habitat for Humanity to furnish a Habitat house, and they take a small handful of DIY bloggers along the World’s Largest Yard Sale~The 127 Corridor Sale (the official FaceBook Page).
Over the course of five days, the bloggers load up in vehicles provided by GMC, are assigned a room in a Habitat House, drive over 690 miles and scour the yard sale items, paint/touch up/DIY what needs to be and fully furnish a Habitat for Humanity House and present it to the Homeowner.
One of my favorite parts of this whole experience is that the new homeowner has no idea that we are coming and that their new home is about to be fully furnished. Most of these people, if not all, have absolutely nothing. Last year’s home owner only had one mattress, that she shared with her son at shelter they were living in.
I can honestly say that this has been the absolute best thing that I have done since starting my blog. Or pretty much ever…besides the three littles and husband 🙂 It was an extremely humbling, emotional, exhilarating, fun and the best experience ever.
The people from Habitat and GMC are just downright amazing. And you will never meet any other people like you do during the yard sale. Half of our time was spent talking and listening to people reminisce about each piece that they had for sale. Once they heard what we were doing, almost all donated goods that they had. It definitely restores your faith in humanity.

We started last year’s trip in Atlanta and ended in Cincinnati, after detouring through a few other states….whoopsie.
I had the chance to meet back up with a few of the girls in California earlier this summer, then the rest of the group at The Haven Conference two weeks ago.
I am insanely giddy to tell you guys that I will be going again this year. I pretty much cried when they invited me back again. The same way I did on the trip last year and the flight home. People seated around me probably thought I had lost it until we started talking about the Habitat House.
I fly out tomorrow. This year’s route will be switched around, I land and we start off in Detroit and end on Sunday at the Habitat House in Atlanta.
Last year I attempted to do blog posts at night, and that turned out to be a bit hectic with driving in each town so late and working on all of our furniture. I’m hoping to maybe squeeze in one this week and finish everything else out next week.
I will, however, be updating the entire trip through Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Periscope (@ twothirtyfivedesigns, available on your phone, iPod or iPad only). If you aren’t already on Periscope, get it. now. It’s live broadcasting, it’s insanity, it’s addicting, and we can all hang out together 🙂
