I have been looking for a thin, lightweight magnetic board for what seems like years.
I didn’t want a frame on it, just a thin piece.
Why thin? So I could hang it without having to configure a way for the wall to hold it. And I didn’t want to break the bank…..I knew it was out there.
When I worked on our locker system last week, I walked by the hvac aisle. And it kind of hit me, after I saw the price tag.
I stumbled upon galvanized sheet metal. It was 9.34, 24×36 and uber thin. So I could drill through without a problem. They offered to tape the sides so I wouldn’t sound like the tambourine man.
Maybe I wanted to sound like a marching band through the store, sheesh….
And so I wouldn’t cut my fingers.
I mean, I am a mom. Moms don’t do that, we know better. We don’t need no stinkin’ tape.
I cut my fingers on it, in the car, to make it stop sounding like an ancient Asian gong going off.
Whatever.
1. Safety Glasses. Even though the cool kids may not wear them, it’s cooler to not have metal shards floating in your pupils. Trust me on this one.
Especially when you have some that look like schmokleys.
2. Use your stud finder and at least find one stud to hit. The other doesn’t really have to, it’s so light weight. Hammer your nails in.
3. Mark on your sheet, where your nails need to go. I then laid the sheet on the leftover wood from the locker project. You will have to apply pressure, and it’s floppy, so scrap wood is a good option to put behind it. Use a drill bit that is slightly larger than the head of your nail.
4. Line ‘er up and hang. Literally under 5 minutes. 5 minutes and $10? Even the husband can be happy with that.
I am still on the search for heavy duty magnets. I went to SIX stores. six. Really? I had no idea it would be this hard to find some. I was looking for just one to hold my calendar, that doesn’t weigh much. But the nail works just fine.
Happy day.
