Kinda funny that I am writing a garden tutorial…. Black Thumbs People. blackest of black.
I can just half way glance at a shrub and it shrieks.
They either are:
a.)not made for our climate
b.)are hungrier than I anticipate
c.)get really tired, really fast
d.)have the life span of a June Bug
e.)really don’t like me
I picked D. And A and C.
Which is all the more reason why I need to show you what has been working for me.
Our house had a massive area that we decided to lay stone in and leave some areas for flower beds. I knew I wanted height in the back, by the windows, and I had a couple of large pots.
In our bed, the sprinkler system was already set up for drip. The tubing to these two pots was set up from there.
We ran a thin tube (without holes) up through the bottom of the pot, making sure to not block the bottom hole of the pot for drainage.
Attach a short, thin drip line to the end of the first tube as shown above.
I bought a cheap plastic pot to insert in the top of the large planter, mainly so we didn’t have to fill up the large pot every time.
Make a few holes for drainage and to run your drip line through at the bottom.
Insert your drip line and pull through till the connector for the the two pieces of tubing is at the cheap pot.
1. Put your small pot inside the large one. Set your plant inside the pot and wind the drip tube loosely around the bottom.
2. As you wind up around the plant, layer with potting soil.
3. Take the end of the tubing and place on the top of the plant.
4. Insert small stakes to hold in place.
5. Like so. (I clearly had an extra picture….it happens when you have an 11 year photograph for you).
6. Top with potting soil.
Viola. Now the next time that you go out to check your mail, you won’t have to try and figure out when the last time that you watered your plants, only to have to replace with new ones because they were all a tad parched.
