I finally just decided to post the 6yearolds room.
I think for most of us DIY’ers, nothing is ever finished, but if there is a chance that the toys are semi picked up, you have to snap a few pics.
Her room is little and has a bit of an odd shape. The younger two share a jack-and-jill bathroom, so her vanity opens to her room. Here is the layout:
In the last house the 11yearold had a bunk bed and I swore them off after that. Making the bed, yadda yadda was a paint. The only advantage is the play space underneath.
She still loves to play babies, barbies and such so I knew she needed floor play space. So I had toyed around with the idea but couldn’t commit until I saw a picture of Danielle Oakey’s little girls room and fell in love.
During one of our trips to Ikea we snatched up the bunked from there. And painted it after I put it together.
I debated for a long time about cutting down the bottom like Danielle did, but the 6yearold is tall and I knew she would have to bend down to play. Also, she is beginning to have friends over to spend the night, so I needed to leave the bottom bar up as an option to add the bottom bunk back in.
Also….I am super short, so I can make her bed easier since we left it.
I really, really despise the ceiling fan. I am working on a plan for that….bear with me.
I wanted the bed centered on the wall, symmetry drives me crazy. To the right of the bed is her little reading area, and to the left, in the back corner are her two doll houses. They are tucked back there, so even when open and filled with 108930 barbies, they can still be out of view from the front of her room.
I love her little reading area…
And her taste in music…..we can clearly hang when she is older.
Opted for an Armoire instead of a dresser for more storage.
Put up a tension rod with curtains for her play area. I love that we can close it off incase an explosion of crayons and bribes happens.
Which does…..daily.
