I asked 31 bloggers the same 35 questions for my 31Days Series.
Here are their answers:
I have been a long time reader of Anna’s blog, Ask Anna. She was one of the first few that I had run across in my newbie months of blogging and I have been hooked since. Ask Anna is my main go-to instead of googling over and over again with questions on how to clean certain things (like your washing machine) organizing and awesome ways of staying on budget for decorating. She seriously has built a one stop shop and I love it!
I met her at Haven last year and she was just the sweetest person. Not to mention I have major hair envy.
And she just posted progress on her awesome kitchen renovation, you guys need to see it.
Interwebs, Meet Ask Anna
1. A bit about yourself, where did you grow up?
I grew up in Northern California going to the lakes every summer and the mountains every winter. It’s a small city but really beautiful.
2. Main subject of your blog?
I would say I’m “known” for my cleaning and organizing tips but last year we bought a home that needed A LOT of work, so this last year I’ve been posting lots of DIY home renovation tips and makeovers.
3. Was a design background something you were interested in when you were young?
I’ve always loved helping people decorate and organize their homes, it’s just in my blood, but I never dreamed I’d be doing what I’m doing today, and helping people all around the world!
4. Fall or spring?
Both! I LOVE the cool Fall evenings and all the colors of the trees, especially after the extremely hot summers we have here, however Spring is always such a breath of fresh air after a cold, rainy winter.
5. If you could have a different profession, would you?
No way. I absolutely love what I do, I’ve always loved helping people but never in a million years thought I’d be able to help people all over the world. My job is a dream job, I just didn’t know that the dream was in me all along. 🙂
7. What style do you usually post about?
My style is clean and organized, a clean and well organized home is a beautiful thing to me. However my design style is more traditional with a slightly modern twist.
8. What is a style that you are drawn to, but isn’t part of your normal material to talk about?
I’m definitley drawn to the rustic, shabby chic look but I don’t know if I could pull it off in my own home because I like clean lines and simplicity.
9. East Coast or West Coast?
This is a tough one. I grew up on the West Coast, so technically I’m a West Coast girl, BUT I love the East Coast. I nannied over there during the summer when I was a high schooler, and I fell in love. I love the styles of the homes, the history (I’m a total history buff), the weather and pretty much everything else. If I hadn’t met my husband, who loves California, I probably would have ended up living on the East Coast. To this day it’s one of my favorite places to visit and I find myself day dreaming about it all the time.
10. Main go-to colors?
White, gray, teal, I LOVE teal! Even my front door is teal!
11. Color combo’s you have been dying to try?
Anything with gold. I know gold is coming back in and I’ve been dying to try it in my own home. I’m in the process of redoing my dining room and I’m adding in a bunch of gold accent pieces, I can’t wait until it’s done!
12. Antiques or new pieces of furniture and decor?
Both. I mostly have newer furniture in my home but I feel like adding antiques is a great way to add charm and character to a home.
13. Avid DIY’er or would you rather buy it finished?
When it comes to decorations, most of the time I’d rather buy it finished. However when it comes to remodeling our home, I’m an avid DIY’er.
14. Favorite Music to work to?
I usually forget to turn on music but my husband and I work side-by-side on most of our projects so I enjoy our conversations.
15. Early Bird or Night Owl?
Both. I know, I’m weird.
16. Eat in or Go Out?
We eat dinner together as a family every night and we enjoy gathering around our table at home. However a couple weekends a month my husband and I love to get a sitter and go out on dates or with friends.
17. Coke or Pepsi?
Neither. I don’t drink soda (gasp!). I’ve never really been into it but if I’m going to steal a sip from my husband’s soda, I prefer Coke.
18. Carpet or Hard Flooring?
Hardwood for the main living areas but carpet in the bedrooms. I can’t go all or nothing on this one, I think there’s a time and place for warm snuggly carpet on your feet.
19. Country you want to visit?
Greece, Switzerland, Italy, there are so many but these are just a few at the top of my list.
20. What do you do to unwind?
Hang out with my husband in the evenings, watch a show on Netflix and sip on a glass of wine.
21. Who is your Design Icon?
This is hard. I’m don’t really follow the rich and famous, I don’t read a lot of magazines and since I started blogging I don’t really have a lot of time for TV either. Years ago, when I used to watch HGTV, I loved Candace Olson. I always loved her makeovers and that they were simple but super elegant.
22. Outside or Inside?
I’m a home body so I’d have to say inside. We are an active family so we do our fair share of running, swimming, hiking, etc. but at the end of the day there’s nothing I love more than curling up on the couch and watching a show with my husband. I love my home and I love to spend time there so I feel truly blessed that I get to work from home.
23. Piece of work that still makes you proud till this day?
My home. I know that might sound silly but we bought this house a year ago and it’s a completely different house in the main living spaces. We tore down a wall, two fireplaces, ripped up all the flooring, redesigned the living room and so much more. I’m still blown away at the transformation when I look at before/after pictures. We have a lot more to do but I know we are off to a good start!
24. What is the movie that you can watch over and over and it never gets old?
The Notebook. It’s my favorite, hands down.
25. Favorite Social Media Platform?
Instagram. I’m such a visual person and I love scrolling through and looking at everyone’s pictures. I also love sharing sneak peeks of projects I’m working on, you can follow me at http://followgram.me/askannamoseley.
26. What movie character do you think you identity the most with?
I honestly don’t know. I like to watch movies but I don’t retain them like a lot of people do. I actually really suck at trivia games and anything that involves knowing moving names, characters, etc. I will say though that I identify with Monica from friends, we have too many similarities and it’s actually pretty funny because my husband is SO Chandler! We were meant to be. 🙂
27. Cupcakes or Cake?
Cupcakes because the frosting to cake ration is better. I don’t really like cake, but I LOVE a good frosting.
28. Best gift you have ever received?
If I say my engagement ring will you all roll your eyes? Is it too cliche? It’s true though, my engagement ring was the best gift I’ve ever received. Marrying my husband was by far, and still is, the best thing that ever happened to me. He’s amazing, I love him, I’m eternally grateful for our marriage and I love the life that we’ve built together.
29. Best gift you have ever given?
My husband has a super crappy birthday, December 27th, and his whole life he got jipped in the gift department. I promised him I’d never let that happen in our marriage and the second year of our marriage, for his birthday I got him a surf trip to Mexico with 9 of his buddies. I still smile when I think about the shock, joy and gratitude on his face when I gave it to him. 🙂
30. Would you rather talk to or text someone?
Talk, it’s so much easier but I don’t always have time to call people, which is why Voxer is by far my favorite app!
31. Coffee or Tea?
Neither. I can’t do caffeine, because my body doesn’t like it, so I don’t drink either. However I do love coffee flavored ice cream, cakes, etc.
32. One thing you cannot live without?
My relationship with the Lord. Without it I’d have no hope, I’d probably kill my children (joking, but you know, we all have “those days”) and I’d be lost. He is the reason I have a blog, He’s the reason it’s successful, He’s the one that has given me an incredible marriage and without Him I honestly don’t know where I’d be.
33. Favorite type of flower?
Tulips. I love tulips but I don’t like how short-lived they are. It always makes me sad to throw them out.
34. Best thing about this year?
So many great things have happened this year but if I’m being honest, I’d have to say it was that BOTH of my girls started going to school full time, for the first time. Last year our adopted teenager did home school and my 5 year old got out at 1pm, but this school year they are both in school until 3pm which means more time for me to work, start working out again, hang out with friends, have lunch dates with my husband and so much more! It’s been so freeing!
35. What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming months?
Everything. I love the holiday season because it means spending time with family, gathering around the table and enjoying delicious meals with family and friends, getting dressed up for Christmas parties, watching the magic of Christmas in my 5 year olds face, and so much more. The holidays are magical to me and I enjoy them every year!
